Composite Restorations | LAUREL DENTAL

We provide metal-free restorations and use composite materials for our fillings. Using a composite that matches the shade, translucency, and texture of your teeth, gaps between teeth can be closed and spots and discolorations can be eliminated.

During a restorative procedure, our dentists will remove any decay (cavity) within the tooth. Once the tooth is free of cavity, it is time to then fill the tooth with a composite resin filling material. Our dentists will match the shade of your existing teeth, and then a tooth-colored composite resin is applied into the tooth where the cavity once was. The resin is hardened (cured) with a curing light and then shaped, contoured, and polished to give a cosmetic and natural appearance, which also fits well with the way you bite. The patient’s comfort is always the main priority of the dental team, leading to a positive experience.

Composite fillings are a great aesthetic restoration option for cavity correction procedures since they are available in natural shades, matching tooth colours. In some cases, cavity preparation can become very large to fill with a composite filling, and our dentists may then recommend a crown, which are restorations designed to replace more tooth structure than a composite filling would. These types of restorations are made in a dental laboratory after the dentist has taken an impression of the tooth preparation. The final placement of restorations will be made during a second visit at Laurel Dental.

Fillings do not last forever so it is essential that you visit our office regularly for further examinations. Fillings can develop cracks or simply wear down due to chewing forces. The dentist monitors the integrity of your fillings during regular exams and may recommend replacing a filling if a problem is detected.
